THE COURSE
Our golf course is set in more than 160 acres of parkland in the beautiful Lune Valley and is our members’ pride and joy.
Established in 1991, the course has reached a level of maturity and conditioning that makes it a pure pleasure to play. Our Head Greenkeeper and his team work hard to provide members and visitors with true putting surfaces and excellent fairways throughout the year.
The Men’s course measures 6594 yards (Par 72, SS 72) from the competition tees and 6244 yards (Par 72, SS 70) from the daily tees.
The Ladies course is 5734 yards (Par 73, SS 73).
ABOUT OUR COURSE
The par of 72 is evenly distributed over the two halves, each having two par threes, five par fours and two par fives. The course is set out
in two anti-clockwise nine-hole loops that make full use of the natural landscape.
The front nine crosses Barbon Beck and works its way down to the River Lune, before returning to the clubhouse. The back nine then heads north up the Lune valley, presenting you with spectacular views of the Howgill Fells, before reaching the high point of the course on the 15th green.
The final three holes then provide a strong finish as you turn back into the prevailing south westerly breeze, with our signature 17th hole being a 157 yard par three to a green located just over Barbon Beck.
THE LUNE COURSE
The “Lune Course” offers an alternative forward set of tees for those players wishing to limit the number of longer carries off the tee. The Lune Course provides an enjoyable experience whilst playing to the same quality fairways and greens as the main course.
The Lune Course is not a separate course, instead you will play off forward tees (blue) on a course measuring approximately 5000 yards.
For men, the Lune Course is Par 70 (SS 66) and for ladies it is Par 73 (SS 69).

We have excellent practice facilities that compliment our golf course, including our open air driving range with covered bays and a short game chipping area.
Our six hole Academy Course is a further addition for beginners juniors and those just beginning to learn the game.
A DETAILED VIEW OF OUR MAIN COURSE
1ST HOLE
A Par 4 opening hole that is relatively straightforward. Beware of the ditch running 15 yards short of the green and remember that if your second overshoots the green then it is likely to be swallowed up by Barbon Beck.
2ND HOLE
A strong Par 4 that doglegs slightly to the right. Keep drive away from the right or your second shot could be hampered by trees. Uphill shot to a good size green.
3RD HOLE
A deceptive and challenging Par 3. The green is protected by a deep bunker front left and a steep slope running off to the left.
4TH HOLE
A Par 5 with a wide fairway protected by bunkers left and right. Keep to the left side of the fairway for your second shot and this should still leave you a short iron to a large green.
5TH HOLE
Another challenging Par 3. A downhill shot to a large green protected by bunkers left and right. Beautiful views of the Lune Valley from the tee help make this a delightful golf hole!
6TH HOLE
A strong Par 4 with a downward slope midway to the green. The length of the fairway runs parallel to the River Lune and you will be happy to walk away with par on this challenging hole!
7TH HOLE
A Par 4 with a steep slope short of the green. The narrow green slopes slightly from right to left. Once again take in the views running down the Valley.
8TH HOLE
A double dogleg Par5. Aim slightly to the right of The Holly Tree for your first shot being aware that the field to the right is Out of Bounds. There is a large bunker to the left of the fairway hampering your second shot. You then drop to a large green guarded by two bunkers, front left and right.
9TH HOLE
A Par 4 that requires a good drive over Barbon Beck to get you onto the fairway above the first of two slopes. The second shot is to an elevated green with bunkers right and left. A tough par 4!
10TH HOLE
A Par 5 with a dogleg to the right. Keeping your first shot to the left side of the fairway will open the angle for your second. Hopefully, you will then see the long narrow green in the distance from the corner of the dogleg.
11TH HOLE
An intimidating Par 4 that doglegs to the left. Barbon Beck to the right of the fairway and a dry-stone wall to the left will require your attention on the tee. A good shot to the corner of the dogleg will leave a short iron to the green.
12TH HOLE
A Par 4 with stunning views of The Howgill Hills from the tee. The hole doglegs to the left dropping down to a large green with a beautiful backdrop – The Lune Valley.
13TH HOLE
This uphill Par 3 is harder than it would first appear, and the green is protected by bunkers front right and back left.
14TH HOLE
A long Par 5 with the tee shot taking you to the top of the hill. A good second shot is required to leave you playing a short iron to a green that may be wide but is not that deep!
15TH HOLE
This Par 4 is uphill all the way. The second shot may look straightforward but with a narrow green guarded by a deep bunker to the right and a dry-stone wall to the left it often proves to be a test. Stunning views of Barbon Fell.
16TH HOLE
A Par 4 that doglegs to the right. The views from the elevated tee and on your second shot the sight of the green nestling between the wood to the right and a hedge behind make this undoubtedly a beautiful and challenging golf hole.
17TH HOLE
A Par 3 that is regularly a card-wrecker! The green is just the other side of Barbon Beck and any shot that curves right usually ends up in a watery grave!
18TH HOLE
A great Par 4 finishing hole. The drive must get to the top of the slope to stand a chance of making the green with your second. Beware of the lake on the left of the green and the bunker to the right.
